It’s mid-afternoon and the wolves, including Blue and Cheza, are all taking a much-needed rest amongst the shadows of jutting rocks and a smattering of trees. Hige and Toboe are already fast asleep, their tails swishing back and forth ever so gently in an effort to keep cool. Kiba sits alone and away yet close enough to stand guard over the others. However, one can see that he’s barely able to keep his eyes open and is doing a rather bad job of trying to stay awake. Suddenly, a scowling gray wolf nudges him gently.

“Go get some rest, Kiba,” it says none too gently. “I’ll take over the watch.”

But the stubborn white beast is already shaking its head lightly. “No. It’s okay. I’m awake now.”

“No, you’re not,” Tsume growls impatiently. “You should take a nap like the others. I’ll do it for now…”

“I said I’m fine, Tsume…”

Their voices are getting a bit louder and this, of course, garners Blue and Cheza’s attention as they open up their eyes slowly.

“Not again,” Blue says even though watching the two males bickering is a welcome reprieve from the oppressing heat and droning atmosphere. “Say, Cheza…who do you think will win this one?”

The flower maiden cocks her head to the side and thinks for a moment before shrugging lightly. “This one does not know. This one thinks that both of them are being silly.”

She giggles and Blue follows suit. “I think Kiba will win. Tsume has his hands full.”

And sure enough, Tsume leaps off the rock with a thunderous scowl on his handsome features. He notices the females watching him and he blushes lightly before turning away with a light snort.

Cheza leans close to whisper into Blue’s ear with a happy smile. “This one thinks that Tsume and Kiba will fight again but that they are good friends deep down inside.”

Blue can only give a similar smile in response for she knows that the maiden is right. The small argument was something she had needed to hear to take her mind off her thoughts on the dangerous journey ahead. She could only hope that more moments like these would occur to put her troubled mind at ease.
